CARTAGO, COSTA RICA – The prestigious International Deans’ Course Latin America (IDC LA) has entered its final, high-stakes stretch. From March 16 to 20, 2026, a cohort of elite university leaders from across the region is gathering at the Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC) – Sede Cartago for the culminating Module IV.

This final phase marks the peak of an intensive journey designed to transform newly elected Deans and Vice-Deans into strategic powerhouses capable of navigating the complexities of modern academic management.

A Global Brain Trust

Success in higher education requires more than just local expertise; it requires a global perspective. This week’s program is the result of a powerhouse collaboration between European and Latin-American institutions.

Under the watchful eye of a distinguished panel of international experts, participants are undergoing rigorous coaching sessions to refine their vision for their home institutions.

Strategy Meets Innovation

Module IV is far from a standard "wrap-up" session. The curriculum dives into the nuanced—and sometimes unconventional—realities of leadership. Key themes being explored this week include:

  • Cross-Cultural Management & Strategy: Navigating global academic partnerships.
  • Freakonomics in Higher Education: Applying data-driven, non-traditional economic logic to campus challenges.
  • Leadership, Gender & Diversity: Ensuring inclusive excellence in the faculty office.
  • Networking and Time Management: The essential "survival skills" for high-level administrators.

The heartbeat of the week, however, is the Strategic Action Plans (SAPs). These are not merely academic exercises; they are real-world reform projects that participants have been building throughout the year to implement within their own faculties.

The Grand Finale: The SAP Poster Session

The week’s intensity will culminate on Friday morning with the highly anticipated SAP Poster Session. In a format that blends academic rigor with competitive energy, participants will pitch their reform projects to a jury of peers, alumni, and experts.

Awards will be presented in three prestigious categories:

  1. "Best Presentation" – For the most compelling and clear communication.
  2. "Most Interesting Topic" – For projects tackling the most unique challenges.
  3. "Most Feasible Project" – For the plan most likely to hit the ground running.

"This isn't just about completing a course; it’s about equipping the next generation of leaders with the tools to redefine what a Latin American university can achieve," noted one of the program organizers.

As the cohort prepares for specialized workshops on Friday afternoon and the Alumni Conference on Saturday they do so with an eye on Sunday’s departure—ready to return to their home countries and turn these strategic blueprints into reality.
